Tips to Help You Drink More Water

Water is essential for your body to function. Water flushes out wastes and toxins, regulates your temperature, aids digestion and delivers nutrients.  Even mild dehydration has an effect—you feel tired and run down.

Try these tips to get the recommended eight 8-ounce glasses daily:

  • Always drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up.
  • Have at least one glass of water before and with every meal and snack. (By filling up with water, you can also help prevent overeating.)
  • To make water more interesting, flavor it with lemon or lime, or choose no- or low-calorie carbonated water.
  • Carry a full, reusable bottle of water and keep track of how often you fill it.
  • What you eat can count toward your water intake. Fruits and vegetables, especially high-water fruits like watermelon and cucumber, give you not only water, but also other nutrients.
  • You can get water from smoothies, soups and salads—thanks to the fruits and veggies in them.
