Preventing Disease Transmission During the Holidays

The holiday season is coming and that means sharing time and gifts with family and friends. But it also can bring the transmission of disease. Someone comes home sick and the next thing you know the rest of the family is sick as well.

To help avoid a disease outbreak, the CDC states that hand washing is the single most effective way to prevent the transmission of disease. Here are a few tips on how you can keep yourself and your family healthy:

  • Wash your hands every time you come into the home.
  • Wash your hands before you eat.
  • Do not touch the “T” zone – eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Try the Sniff Test: If your hands smell clean, they are clean. If your hands do not smell clean, they probably are not clean and are perhaps contaminated with something you do not want to share.
