Heart Attack Signs in Women

June 25, 2013 at 10:12 pm Leave a comment

Even though heart disease is the number one killer of women, women often chalk up the symptoms to less life-threatening conditions like acid reflux, the flu or normal aging. Both men and women can experience chest pressure, but women can experience a heart attack quite differently.

Here are the signs of heart attack to be on the alert for:

1.         Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.

2.         Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

3.         Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.

4.         Breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

5.         Women are somewhat more likely than men to experience shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, and back or jaw pain.

If you or someone you know has any of these signs, don’t wait more than five minutes before calling for help. Call 9-1-1 and get to a hospital right away.
