Throughout the month, organ procurement organizations, transplant centers, and national donation organizations sponsor special awareness events and donor recognition ceremonies to promote donation awareness and registration.

Here are the facts:

  • Each day, about 79 people receive organ transplants
  • 116,803 people are waiting for an organ
  • Anyone, regardless of age or medical history, can be a donor
  • One organ donor can save up to 8 lives and enhance many others through tissue donation

Last year alone, organ donors made more than 28,000 transplants possible. Another one million people received cornea and other tissue transplants that helped them recover from trauma, bone damage, spinal injuries, burns, hearing impairment and vision loss.

To register to be donor in your state or for more information on organ donation, visit organdonor.gov for more information.
