Who is at Risk for Osteoporosis?

The following factors can increase your risk of fractures caused by osteoporosis:

  • Personal history of fracture or falls
  • Family history of osteoporosis
  • Caucasian race
  • Dementia
  • Poor nutrition or diet low in calcium
  • Low body weight
  • Early menopause, removal of ovaries or prolonged amenorrhea
  • Lack of exercise
  • Alcoholism
  • Certain medications
