October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when agencies across the U.S. will promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease and provide greater access to services.

About 12 percent of women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Breast cancer is the one of most common types of cancer among women and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer.

This is why it is important find breast cancers early before they start to cause symptoms. And thanks to improvements in cancer treatment and early detection, millions of women are surviving breast cancer today.
