How to Prevent Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis can be prevented through exercise. Exercise increases bone mass. Just as muscles become stronger with regular exercise, so do bones. In addition, bones are strengthened when the muscles pull on them.

Calcium also helps slow the rate of bone loss. Good sources of calcium are dairy products, such as milk and yogurt. Other sources are leafy green vegetables, nuts, seafood and juices and cereals that are fortified with calcium. You can also take calcium supplements.
