Summer has officially started and the vacation season is in full swing. While you’re likely to remember to take along your swimsuit and sunscreen, you may forget to make sure your healthcare needs are vacation ready.

Here are a few travel tips to help ensure a vacation that maximizes both good times and good health:

  • Refill any prescriptions at least three weeks prior to leaving.
  • Bring enough prescription medications and over-the-counter products to last your entire trip.
  • If you are flying, pack prescription medications in your carry-on luggage.
  • Prior to leaving on a trip to countries where diarrheal illnesses are common, ask your healthcare provider if you should get a prescription for antibiotics.
  • Ask your healthcare provider which immunizations you may need prior to traveling abroad.
  • Before traveling, review your Certificate of Insurance to become familiar with your benefits coverage.
  • Pack your ID card, health coverage ID card, personal health record summary, emergency contacts and a first-aid kit.
